150th Anniversary of the Siege of Fort Abercrombie

This event is co-sponsored by the State Historical Society of North Dakota, the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Historic Preservation Office and Archives, and the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County.  It is the Red River Valley's commemoration of the US-Dakota War. 
There will be a series of four lectures throughout the day: 
11 am: "The 1862 US-Dakota War: Realities and Repercussions" by Richard M. Rothaus, archeologist and president of Trefoil Cultural and Environmental
1pm:  "A Dakota Perspective of 1862" by Tamara St. John, Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Historic Preservation Office and Archives
3pm:  "Dakota Scouts in the US Army in 1862" by Tamara St. John, Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Historic Preservation Office and Archives
5pm:  "The Evacuation of Georgetown and the Northern Red River Valley" by Markus Krueger, Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County
There will also be guided tours of the battlefield at 10am, 2pm and 4pm with living history characters, food, a book signing of "Abercrombie Trail" by local author Candace Simar, and try your hand at setting up a tipi.   
$5 admission, $2.50 for students
