Also referred to as part of the "Indian Wars". In this case referring to the U.S. military campaign in the Western United States led by General Alfred Sully and others to capture, kill, and/or displace the Dakota in the aftermath of the U.S.-Dakota War. Lakota, Nakota, and other indigenous bands were also indiscriminately persecuted. Notable armed engagements were the battles of Wounded Knee, Little Bighorn, and Killdeer Mountain.
